Mackinac City

The work includes: replacing barrier walls, exp joints, pins & hangers; overlays & deck patching on 4 bridges.  Hull closed the inside lanes of NB & SB I-75 and began working on March 28th. Although a few days were lost due to a snow storm on 3/31, Hull’s work will be completed near the end of May; bridge painting will continue through the end of June.

Benstein Boardwalk

The boardwalk is 1708 ft long. - 122 spans, each 14 feet long. The 122 sections of deck and 248 sections of handrail were prefabricated in our Walled Lake shop. Over 95,000 board feet of lumber were incorporated into the walkway; and nearly 100,000 screws were used to fasten the railing. The walkway is supported on 132 wolmanized 12" wood piles.  The project started in mid-February.  Work on the project is complete except for some hand railing and the asphalt pathways at the ends of the boardwalk.

This photo shows the precise positioning of anchor bolt template and related reinforcing steel.  The H-piling frame is used to precisely locate and support the temporary steel plate that is acting as the form for the top of concrete for this arch pedestal.

Shown here is the early foundation work in the center between the two bridges that will carry East and Westbound I-94 roadways over Telegraph Road.

Reinforcing steel is placed and ready for form installation.  This is the last pour of the substructure foundation on the East abutment.  The arch foundation on the East side will be located in the center of the photo.  The West foundation, pictured earlier, can be seen in the background.

This projects consists of the Reconstruct 5 Bridges and the construction of  2 new twin Tied-Arch Structures.  The Tied-Arch structures are similar to the one pictured above.
