Design + Build
Design + Build has become one of the most important and fastest-growing methods of project delivery in the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Innovative Contracting Unit. Historically, these contracts are fast-paced, from the design phase through construction, and can be delivered much sooner and at less cost than traditional methods. C.A. Hull has successfully bid and built many of these projects in Michigan both as part of a team and as a prime contractor.
Our long-standing and respected history within the transportation industry, along with our skilled team of bridge builders, grants us the experience our clients need in order to innovate and complete projects while remaining cost-effective.
Over the years, C.A Hull has built great working relationships with both state design teams and private design firms and has successfully completed projects across the state of Michigan.
Construction Manager General Contractor (CMGC)
C.A. Hull has been very successful with this method of Innovative Contracting. Using this method, MDOT chooses the General Contractor based on their Statement of Qualifications. The chosen General Contractor then partners with MDOT to provide design assistance and projected construction costs during the design phase. At the conclusion of the design phase, the Construction Contract Price is negotiated.
Alternative Technical Concept (ATC)
This method of Innovative Contracting is used to propose alternative construction methods. These methods are submitted and approved prior to the bid and generally improve traffic control, staging and safety for the project, as well as incorporating innovative construction techniques. C.A. Hull has been successful with this method on a number of projects let by the State of Michigan.
Public Private Partnership (PPP)
This is a newer method of project delivery in which the Prime Bidder also finances the project and provides a maintenance/warranty period. C.A. Hull has experience in the pursuit and construction phases of this process.
Work Zone Traffic Safety Review
To increase safety on high profile, heavy traffic projects, MDOT will ask for input from prequalified contractors regarding safety, schedules, and best practices. No projects are awarded during this phase, but comments are reviewed and incorporated into the final bid documents. C.A. Hull is proud to offer our input pro bono in this early phase of project planning.
